    Monitor Resolution Issue

    Hi All,
I just bought a new monitor and when I went to play a game (starcraft) I found out that the monitor can't display anything lower than 800x600, which starcraft is hard-coded to be at 640x480 which can't be changed.
Is there anyway I can force a game to be at a higher res or force the monitor down lower?

Why do you think your monitor can't display anything lower than 800 x 600? I know you can't set lower in new windows versions, but you should still be able to set it in the compatibility options. Right click the executable, go to the compatibility tab and set it to run in 640 by 480.

I've tried a few things that require 640.480 in both xp (supports it) and vista (can't choose anything lower than 800) and everything i've tried will bring up the "resolution out of range" message on the monitor

Is the refresh rate set too high at the lower rez? That could do it.
Here's Britney Spears' private jet... The gulf stream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound DVD system. Still think downloading music for free isn't a big deal?

Nope, Monitor only has 1 refresh rate, 60hz. Should mention this is LCD not CRT if that helps

Even LCDs have refresh rates though, or at least there is a way they are handled. If your PC is outputting too high of a rate, the monitor will still choke. I kinda doubt that it is the issue though if you knew what to check. I just find it insanely improbable that the monitor can't support that resolution. I'm running on a Viso 47" 1080P tv, and it doesn't care at all when the HDMI connection starts showing 640X480. It's subjectively irrelevant, but if my TV can do it, why the fuck won't your monitor do it?

Ya, it seems strange since all it has to do is set it up so the pixels display differently. It has nothing to do with how the monitor is built.
