    networking/modem issues

    ok, here's the story...
i have pci graphics bc my mobo doesnt have agp
    installed winxp home
    all pci cards worked...

found out that my graphics card in the third slot was causing problems, so i moved it... had to move my modem and firewire card too. then the firewire wouldn't start, as windows said... moved that with the graphics card... everything worked.

then, i started having problems connecting. windows had the right modem and everything, but there was a big problem with my shortcuts... they wouldn't open... the network connections panel in the start menu froze the taskbar. after a while, it would all work, and windows would jump to catch up with anything i had tried to do with the start menu.

now i have moved my modem again, to get it to work, and its a generic soft56k... windows refuses to recognize the modem as one with a conexant chip. i am also afraid windows will mess up again later...

i am going to try to download the modem drivers for xp from a website... any suggestions about the slowdowns with the networking stuff?

    i have 256mb ram, an nvidia gf2 mx200 (32mb ram), a 20gb hd, a 56k modem, a firewire card from belkin, and a p3 1ghz cpu.

and no, it crashed before, when i used winme. this was bc of the gfx cards placement... when i changed it, it was fixed.

i only have problems with xp's network connections panels and such now. and i cannot find my modem drivers anymore at the site i intended to go to, but i have a few other sites i will look at.

one other thing... i got the drivers, still nothin... i changed a 'network connections' service to automatic. dunno if that'll help. i hope some ppl are reading this.

the pc thinks that the modem is connected at startup, even tho it is not...

Ive had similar problems with XP and switching hardware around, the only way to do it, is to wipe out the drivers completely, then reinstall them (or so I've been told), I had to reformat windows

If you need a good place to download drivers, try www.driversguide.com

the login name is drivers, the password is all

What I would suspect, is windows is linking to the wrong slot, and some associations havent moved to the new one, you certainly do have a problem, hopefully somebody else can help you further
