ok, I'm not an idiot. Followed the instructions on every major WinMX help site and I *still* can't connect to Opennap. Tried using NapMX and even the less efficient find/import .WSX. I'm definitely getting fresh server lists.. but when I highlight and attempt to connect it doesnt work. It either keeps trying to connect, has connection refused or has Login Error> Invalid User Name. I'm on broadband, but is it possible my processor is too slow to use Opennap via WinMX? Do I have to change anything in settings? And if it is just completely hopeless, how about a reccomendation for a good external p2p client to access Opennap?
What is your connection speed? Are you broadband? Do you try to connect tham ALL at once? ( no no)
When I import a slew of new openap wsx lists, I get maybe 40 - 50 that will connect, out of all of them. Im talking 12 lists with hundreds of servers.
Eventually, a few will connect, and in time, I realize that some will never connect, so I delete them.
Are you on a primary or secondary connection ? In Options > Settings > Openap Networks > did you set the time out for longer? How many to connect at one time?
I can export a list that works for me, and send it to you
.
If you want to connect to alot of OpenNap servers try a different program like AudioGnome. This program always worked well for me for OpenNap.

does you username contain any non standard (a-z and 0-9) digits?
that could be the reason for the Invalid Username?
right click one of the opennap servers and choose edit...take a look at the name.

thanks Krell and V. Yeah I did have alt-255s in my name so I thought removing them would help.. but no. I did fiddle with timeout length and number of connections to no avail. So I just broke down and got Audiognome. Its ok but not really worth it. Maybe I'll be able to use Opennap with the new version of WinMX.
I hope a new version of winmx wil come out soon cuz they release a new version every 2-3 months and now its past that so i think they are gearing up for something big.. hopefully it will solve the ques like they said it might
what exactly does that mean? solve the queues? whats wrong with waiting a little while, unless your on 56k?[i].. hopefully it will solve the ques like they said it might [/B]
With winmx you usually don't wait "a little while". It are long ques, and windows sometimes crashes, users go offline, etc. wich makes it even more difficult to download something.Originally posted by selperfuge

for indeed those who may be waiting in my queue, r already downloading like maybe 20 songs.
yes, i'm 56k....so shoot me.
oh, but they don't want to wait for that one more song in my queue?
doh!
pahlease.....and too bad if after i'm done and go offline, they don't get that twenty-first song....oh my.
see you two have illustrated perfectly what makes WinMX so great. Because it isn't immediately intuitve, because it requires a little understanding to use, f_u_c_k_t_a_r_d_s like yourselves get frustrated and hopefully even bail out and go to Kazaa. Which gives us an inadvertant dumbass filter for the WinMX community. Queueing is perfectly natural and is not going away. And even if you don't get the file, you get the hash file (the _INCOMPLETE thing). So please don't get pissy about queues and dont pm me to start you.
What exactly is your username? There may be other characters that a server will reject, or maybe you have a space in your username. Try temporarily to change your login to "john" and see if that works.
Another thing that could be bad is your password, if you find that "john" doesn't work. in settings-->OpenNap Networks-->Default Password, you can try leaving it blank.
I just love smug bastards like yourself that take joy in slamming a newbie or someone opposed to your view point. I am on 56k and sometimes the queues aren't long but other times it is just not worth it. I have a 4 hour time limit each time I connect (as do MANY other 56k ISPs) and I sometimes get cut off before I can even start to download what I want. Even when I do start to download the quality of the selection isn't that great. Half of the songs (from my experience of actually getting anything) are rips of rips. Meaning all of those "f_u_c_k_t_a_r_d_s" from KaZaA moved to Winmx and converted their 128 mp3s to WAV and then converted it to 320kbps mp3s. Not only do they sound like shit, waste my time and bandwidth, and fucking piss me off.. but they make me NOT want to use this stupid app ever again.Originally posted by selperfuge

I can always go to DC++ and get GOOD rips of songs without waiting days for a damn song that isn't even that great in quality. Further more, I can avoid assgoblins like yourself and have a good chat with some unique people (as opposed to the WinMX chat which usually involve porn, woman, and lots of "you suck" "fuck" and "your mommas so fat.." tosed around. )
Oh and not all of our daddys can pay for our connection and some of us are too poor to offord broadband or are just not in the area, so keep your mouth shut if you think everyone in the world is too lazy to get cable or dsl.

about opennap... make sure you try soniknap, i think thats the servers group name... and the invalid username... hmm. i think there is an option in the settings > opennap, that says something about username, and when you put in your first name for winmx, it'll use that. clicking change in the network thing doesn't change the one in opennap. i might be wrong tho, haven't used winmx in a while...
and moonman, i hate the tards too, when they encode songs higher than they should be... but i only dl 128's and 192's... yea, 128... i like it, i get more songs in less space. im not so worried about the quality. more about quantity.

well see you just proved my point. Some cuuntmunger from Kookaburra, New Zealand who has to pedal a stationary bicycle just to power his computer shouldnt be on WinMX. Its called file sharing. Not file charity. And why would I want to download from someone with a 4 hour limit? You can keep your A*Teens, O-Town, and Jon Benet Ramsey .MPGs to yourself.[i]I am on 56k and sometimes the queues aren't long but other times it is just not worth it.
