Problem with sound in windows, please help!!

Okay i just got my computer fixed, and everything works fine, but the sound doesn't work. and down in the system tray for windows xp it says found new hardware, so yeah it asks me to install the sis 7012 sound thing or whatever # it is.and then it searches relly quick on the internet and downloads a file and then it usually works. this is the way i've always done it, but now when it's done downloading the file off the interenet it says "an error has occured, The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name"

so i tried going into device manager and uninstalling it but that didn't work either. so when i right click on my computer click properties, then hardware, and click add hardware theres either a question mark, or an ! next to Multimedia audio controller. so apparently this isn't installed and i don't know how to get it installed to get my sound to work, hope someone can help me! thanks a lot for any help!

    Umm you could have:
A seriously blown your sound card/port in taht case go to www.pricewatch.com and get a new one.
    or
    B. missing the audio driver
figure out what audio card you have and hit eather the homepage of your soud card or hit like
    http://www.doctordriver.com/
but it looks like it is in spanish now which is realy weerd and is freaking me out.
dose any one else have a good driver page.

I almost never use driver pages becuse I always hit the homepage of the product and find it there or do a google serch for the exact name of the product and driver or somthing like that.

    PowerMan57two,

When you see anything in Device manager with an exclamation, look at the properties to see if theres a conflict with an IRQ, or memory range. Also, just delete it, and any other sound drivers you see listed there.

Next, reboot. XP should try to reinstall the drivers for you, and say New Hardware found. If this still doesnt work, let me know, it may be that you neeed to get a driver from your MB site, or straight from SIS.

well when it tries to install it says SiS 7012 audio driver, so it's an sis 7012. and no i didn't blow it out cause this happens when i reinstall windows xp pro. but before it would download a quick update from the internet. and boom it would work again. but anyways i did a search for sis 7012 driver updte for windows xp and i got a web site and downloaded it, and when i tried to install this one that was for windows xp, it said my computer was the wrong model #, i think i got it off a some sony site, so i'm guessing i need hp one. and when i restart the computer it does recognize this and want to install this, but it wont let me, like i said above it gives me an error, saying it's in use by something else. and when i try to uninstall it from the device manager it stays out for about 30seconds, then that dumb thing comes up in the system tray asking it to install it. is there anyway i can disable that hardware notifier, just so it can download the update really quick. well whatever i just need this sound fixed, i know there's a way to do it.. i do it all the time when install xp pro after my computer breaks.. lol

Go back to Device manager, and see if it tells you what the problem is.

Then, select Update Driver. Try to find another driver.

Compare these versions and file sizes. Keep em organized for future reference.

"an error has occured during the installation of this device
the name is already in use as either a service name or a service display"

thats what it says, and i tried uninstall it, but then when i search to install new hardware it just comes right back on my computer.
