Hmm wonder if this was hand powered, or whether they had a large mass that would be suspended a released to use gravitational energy to charge the phone. Fairly well thought out either way.

It looks like a hand crank. The whole assembly is not that big judging from an image of a lighter.
This looks like a form of a dynamo (the one you would have on your bicycle).
