When did you get your first computer?

When did you get/buy your own personal computer (that also includes all other brand of products)?

My first computer was an Apple clone with an 8-bit 6502 micro.I built it with all my money that I had earned during the summer in 1979. I was learning "Basic" and had built a few more summer contraptions.

Got a Dell about 7 years ago. It's been downhill ever since.

Don't remember the model, but it had:

    CPU was 1.86 g Intel

    256 megs of memory

    40 gig hard drive

    Windows 2000 Pro

    And a CD burner

I was 4 and it was an Intel 386 assembled by a local company. If I remember correctly my dad had updated it the year after with a Sound Blaster card. It had windows 3.1, remember playing a lot of worms, reversi, gorillas, and sierra adventure games on it. Still remember the line from Space Quest 3. "You get the ladder and put it in your pocket. Ouch."

I was given an abacus when I was a kid.

Didn't use it much other than to slam the beads back and forth.

I first had a 486 and then in 95' my first decent computer with, if my memory serves me, 9 floppy disks with WIN95. Then did an upgrade to WIN98, which was cheaper than the ram upgrade. I think I went from 32mb to 64. I remember it being expensive.
