NBCU, Microsoft Announce Plans for 2010 Olympics

Microsoft will once again provide NBC Universal with video streaming technology and other online delivery tools for its coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

From Feb. 12 to Feb. 28 of next year, viewers will be able to access live and on-demand footage from the events at NBCOlympics.com and MSN, NBCU said, just as they did during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In fact, the Beijing Games were the most web-centric sporting event ever, with more than 2,000 hours of live event coverage streamed online to more than 52 million unique users.

According to Microsoft, the partnership will once again involve its Silverlight video technology, which is capable of delivering HD video within a standard web browser.
