I have an older HP with 512 mb of RAM, should this ram fit my Toshiba Satellite p25?

what model is your hp exactly? after reading reviews i read of the toshiba satellite p25 i would not recommend investing in ram as new laptops are getting cheaper by the minute. why dont you try and put the ram from the hp into the toshiba and see if it likes it?

You will have to post information about the HP laptop. The reason is so we can check the type of ram it used and compare it to the Toshiba Satellite ram.

I understand trying reuse old parts but with 2 gigs of laptop memory going for $25 on newegg???

One of the few bright sides of massive global recession. Lower memory prices.

Given the quoted prices stated above, It just isn't worth it based on the non-existent risks alone. You *could* static shock the ram before installing it and cause all sorts of stability issues or snap off one of the connectors in the laptop. Sure, the risks of these are really low, but throw in $25 to get a REAL upgrade makes the procedure a lot more worth it. 512MB is almost as valueless as its weight in pennies.

Meh, I take that back. If you only have 512 now in your Satellite now, doubling it will make a difference.

New laptops will most likely have shared dual channel DDR2 at 667MHz. If your dell is a few years old, it probably has DDR1, which is not likely compatable. You could always pull the ram and read and compare, as the info will be on the stick. Be sure to wear a anti-static band.

If you right click my computer and go to properties the manufacturers usually put the system details in that info section. That or there must be a sticker under the laptop that gives ver. model. and other numbers.

No, they are not compatible since Toshiba uses ddr pc 2700 family of sodimm's and dell uses ddr2 with much faster clock speed. If you're looking to speed up Toshiba, you can perhaps add more memory (max is 2.0 GB) and tweak your OS. Do not interchange the memory stack with each other.
