Talking Microsoft.com Makes IE8 Incompatibility List! (Slashdot)

Microsoft is tracking incompatible Web sites for its upcoming Internet Explorer 8 browser and has posted a list that now contains about 2,400 names — including Microsoft.com. Apparently, even though Microsoft's IE8 team is doing the 'right' thing by finally making IE more standards-compliant, they are risking 'breaking the Web' because the vast majority of Web sites are still written to work correctly with previous, non-standards-compliant versions of IE.

lol! Believe me, coding with IE is the biggest f*cking pain in the ass ever - especially when you put fancy CSS into your code. It's fun to see their own browser not able to handle their own corporate website.

This sounds just like the embarrassing windows 7 DRM article slashdot posted.

IE8 has different modes that it runs in, this is because of all the deviations from the standard in the past. Just because it doesn't run in the standard mode doesn't mean it won't work.

MS is trying to do the right thing finally by compiling with the standards, it is going to take a long time for all the sites that have been tweaked to work on IE to get fixed. Kind of shows how immature and petty Slashdot is to beat up on Microsoft because their web site does not support a browser that is still in development.

Kind of sad to see Slashdot engage in FUD like they have in the past week. I switched to Ars Technica a long time ago and they are way better than slashdot.

I don't even use IE either, I use Chrome.

I noticed most mouse over menu's dont work right on some sites with the beta 8 version. The menu displays but can be hidden behind background wallpaper/images.

But overall I am enjoying it.

Sorry. I have a grudge against IE because I had to code for it a couple of times. Naturally, I just found this story hilarious as a consequence. I do hope IE8 actually renders code properly to some degree unlike before where you had to use a number of hacks to get IE to render your page properly. It'll be sooo worth it in the long run for newcoming web developers, that's for sure.

I remember learning how to build websites... except I had to relearn what was acceptable with IE vs everything else.

It's depressing when you set up something fantastic looking in IE, and then open it up in Firefox and your jaw just drops to the floor by how fucked up it looks. This used to be the case frequently for me anyway.
