New phone features 'baffle users' (BBC)

The complexity of modern mobile phones is leaving users frustrated and angry, research suggests.

Some 61% of those interviewed in the UK and US said setting up a new handset is as challenging as moving bank accounts.

Compiled by mobile firm Mformation, the survey found 85% of users reporting they were frustrated by the difficulty of getting a new phone up and working.

Of the 4,000 people questioned, 95% said they would try more new services if phones were easier to set up.

I'm surprised that they didn't learn from the difficulties of digital watches.

This is one of the bigger problems I see with the advancement of technology. A large percentage of the people using mobile phones are at least 55 years old and barely able to use a computer's most basic functions. How are they supposed to be able to get a new phone up and running properly, let alone try to fix/solve any problems they're likely going to have down the road. I'm all for the advancement of tech, but at some point people are going to have to realize that they're cutting out a large portion of their business by not supporting the less advanced devices.

I just hit 52 yrs old a couple of days ago and do all the repairs to my own system, and I have had no formal training except for basic electronics in high school thirty years ago.
Many of the people who post her are way past their 20's and 30's.
Two of our older mods, Crazy Horse and Hunter are older then me.
