I still prefer godaddy for I've tried and tested them. I also host my website at them although others might say that its better to choose hostgator when it comes to hosting but they're quite expensive. All in all, if you want a domain then godaddy is the best pick.

first I used Frewebs for my domain service which was expensive-I switched to GoDaddy and the service and price is much better-I have two domain names through them.
now i have a free hosting services from a frnd
I recommend http://name.com and http://godaddy.com both are popular, cheap and pretty easy to use and has all necesarry options and support.
Many web hosting provider provides it for free until you remain with them so if your are sure enough about the quality of their services for long term then you should take advantage of such offers.
