Hi there guys, I'm just wondering is it somehow possible to download torrent file using some BitTorrent client and to put ftp as download location so that file is going directly to ftp instead of my HDD? :icon_scra I know how it sounds, but I'm just wondering it would ease my life.. :icon_thum
Thx in advance..
FTP to where?
from wikipedia, ftp wiki:
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol used to transfer data from one computer to another through a network such as the Internet.
So, hmmm.
What you are basically proposing is a leech box.
I coined it, remember that when it becomes a huge new trend.
What it would require, since ftp is a server/client connection, is a third party service, someone to amalgamate all the swarm connections into a single stream to upload to the ftp server.
I really can't think of a way to do it, besides you completing the torrent download yourself and then you yourself uploading it to your ftp, but if it were possible, it certainly would add a whole new leg to filesharing.
Perhaps someone far more intelligent than myself or anyone I know will come up with a co-mingled bittorrent/fxp protocol client.
Imagine the excitement of an old school 0day ftp dump combined with the unstoppable force of the bittorrent swarm.
I have wood.

Yeah, I'm not really familiar with something that would download a file directly from a swarm to an FTP server. You still have to manually up it to the server yourself. While it sounds like a great idea, I can envision all the security problems that would ensue. Like Carpefile though, I wouldn't know much about this myself.

Any computer can be an FTP server. Couldn't you just put a torrent client on whatever computer is running the FTP server?
Can someone explain why having BT content on an FTP server is so exciting?
I think the main idea is to not have the ftp server be your computer. You want to take advantage of the storage and bandwidth of a hosted server.
If a host allowed you to run a bittorrent client on it and you were able to access the download directory via ftp, I suppose that would work. Know of any hosts that will?
And its not BT content on an ftp server that I find exciting, its the process of getting it there and being able to access it via ftp.
Maybe it's cause I'm old and nerdly, but I used to find 0day ftp dumps thrilling. I suppose it had more to do with the challenge of finding them, quickly, and the race to grab whatever you could before they were discovered by the unwitting host and shut down than it did with the actual content on them.
Nobody can start over and make a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.
Heheh. Sounds like fun.
Seedboxes are an excellent way to boost ones ratio and it, to my knowledge, requires that files be manually ftp'd to the server. There are actually a number of hosts that allow this sort of thing (some are companies that specifically sell seedboxes)

Storage and bandwidth-wise, I'd go for BT every time. Those 0-day FTPs do sound like the business!
