you need a 64 bit build of the same program.

why not use a different AV

i second that. is verizon is giving the AV free or is the price included in your subscription? maybe you could call tech support and find out if there is a 64bit version.

avg was offering a free 1yr subcription for it's pro version per IP address. don't know if it's still on, but it's a good alternative.
EDIT: the offer seems to have gone, oh well.

Right, you can't do that though.

I use Norton for the sake of simplicity, but I'd recommend AVG/Comodo for others.

ask if they have a 64bit version of the program. if not, it's not really worth changing your OS just for one program...

sucks doesn't it? after spending what, 100 bucks for the OS(?) you have to shell out another 50 for an AV. if you're going the paid route, i'd suggest kaspersky AV and let your router handle the firewall. stay away from them internet suites, they hog way too many resources.

Why buy an A/V when both AVG and Avast offer their products for free, and they are fairly well rated too, they have gotten the VB100 certification time and time again. If you are still inclined to pay for software go for Eset Nod32. Might just be me, but Norton (apparent leader) is bloatware.

Currently I could get Trend-Mirco for free from my campus, but I did not like it all that much so I switched to Avast. It seems I bounce back and forth from AVG to Avast. Reason I like Avast right now is their free AV scans websites and rookits for free, where as AVG does not.

ya i forgot about nod 32. very light and very fast. it's detection rate is not as good as norton or kaspersky but i guess thats the trade off for having something as light on resources as it is. i've settled on kaspersky mainly because it's detection rate is pretty good and it doesn't hog up as much as norton. norton still has the best scanning engine though.

I've used AVG for years without a problem, and you can *cough* buy *cough* a key if you want to.
