    CD audio to MP3?

This may be a dumb question, but I want to save songs from an audio CD to my PC in MP3 format. The only software that I know will work restricts me to 56K bitrate and looses clarity.

    What should I be using?

    Try CDex.

CDex is a freeware application, that lets you
extract audio tracks from a CD-ROM digitally,
and save those files to disk
as either a regular WAV file or MP3 file.

You can also encode your mp3's to any bitrate you choose.
It takes a little getting used to, but there's plenty of help with it.
And a bunch of fourms around for CDex help too.

    mp3 to CD

It depends if you want free or inexpensive or expensive.

Free their is EAC which is considered the best cd ripper and has a builtin cd burner.

If EAC is to complicated for you I just saw a new freeware application called MP3 CD doctor at http://mp3surgeon.com
it is a simple basic burner.

Acoustica MP3 to CD is real nice, it normalises the sound volume and has some nice features, it is shareware and not very expensive.

try the free ones and see if you need something more after that. They have no limits on bitrate etc.

Rickio is right about EAC being the best.
But CDEX is a little more user friendly for a beginner.
    That's why I suggested that.

But if you really want to jump into ripping and encoding,
and plan on doing allot of it...I'd agree with Rickio...get EAC.

I use dBpowerAMP myself. It's free and very easy to use. You can rip to wave, mp3(LAME), mp3(BLADE), wma, ogg vorbis, monkey's audio and others with the free codecs.

the program cdex will allow you to rip and encode to a bitrate of 320 kbs.

now there are different compression formats, that cdex also allows you to do, some are so everychanging.
so give cdex a try. its pretty good.
