So I just got Bose Companion 3 series II computer speakers and it comes with a subwoofer. Well the subwoofer is turned all the way down in the back and when I turn the volume up on the speakers, the bass still gets really loud and it thumps. I don't want the people below me to get mad (cause I'm on the 2nd floor in an apartment).
Anyways, I have windows vista and in the volume control I thought there might be a way to control the bass output but there isn't. Is there a software program I can download to control the bass and maybe turn it down even more via the computer?
Thanks!
I think Winamp does something like that where you can control the levels. Subwoofers are meant to thump, so I would imagine you'd really have to tone down the bass so it won't thump like that.
Good luck. :)

I know... it'd be better if I were on the first floor =)
See with Winamp is it that you can only contro lthe bass when you have the program open? I want the program to basically sit in the system tray as my "sound controller software" and have the bass down that way.... but who knows... I'll keep on looking. Just wondering if anyone here knew something off the top of their head =)
Depending on who makes your sound card you may be able to do it through the drivers.
Check your control panel, most sound card drivers have software for adjusting the audio settings. Even the cheapest ones I've come across gave you this option. Ex: Mines called Sound Manager. Often you will also find it running in the task manager (bottom right corner).
If you don't have anything in your control Panel its possible you are using generic drivers (ones designed to work with multiple devices). If thats the case than you want to install the drivers for your sound card. If you know the manufacturer of your machine, and model of your computer than go to their website. Otherwise right click my computer-properties-device manager-sound,video,game controllers you should be able to see your sound card manufacturer. Google them and see if you can find the newest drivers and install them. Hopefully afterwords you will have some kind of software in your control pannel.

Great! I found the Realtek audio files i needed! I think this is going to work... thank you!
Okay, so nevermind... that didn't work ;-( Realtek is now in the system tray... but I still can't control the bass? Any other ideas? What about a cheap sound card and then some software that will let me if i can't find any software for my current system now?
Most, if not all Realtek sound manager interfaces I've seen have a built in equalizer, which can allow you to adjust the base.
Do you have a screen like this in your sound manager?

What about the settings when you go to control panel- sound-speakers-click properties. You can try and play with the levels, maybe some of the other tabs have something you can work with.
