vlc 9.4 slower the 8.6 mac

i have found that the new release of vlc is slower then the older one, why is that? shouldnt it be faster or are there some setting i should turn off. i use it mostly for 1080p mkv movies, and alot of the time its to choppy, i have a macbook pro 2.4 ghz, seems to be enough for all the h.264 but not x.264, why is that? any help or comments would be most appreciated.

The problem may lie in the way your using it, for 080p movies, of which the Ma does not offically support. I suggest throwing them through VisualHub and watching them in iTunes...
