Porn on a plane: Flight attendants want filters (CNet)

Coffee, tea or porn? "I don't think so," say American Airline flight attendants.

Leaders of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, which represents some 19,000 workers including American Airlines flight attendants, asked American Airline's management this week to consider adding filters to its in-flight Wi-Fi access to prevent passengers from viewing porn and other inappropriate Web sites while in-flight.

A union representative told Bloomberg News that attendants and passengers have raised "a lot of complaints" over the issue.

American Airlines is one of several airlines testing in-flight Internet access as a way to lure more passengers. American has been offering the service on a limited basis since August 20th on some flights between New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and between New York and Miami. The cost of the service on cross-country flights is $12.95, and it's $9.95 on the New York to Miami route.

C'mon, if they pay the ridiculous sums of money due to oil company greed, I'd think anything to take your mind off of the insane prices would be great in-flight... though I suppose the moaning isn't wanted by parents taking their children on the flights as well.

What they really need to filter out are those martyr training sites. Its bad enough if your plane get hijacked, but you don't want the guy hijacking reading a script off a website in broken English getting angrier and angrier when no one knows what the fuck he is screaming about. Meanwhile everyone peacefully looking at their porn can't figure out why the guy fucking the girl is so flaming mad.

The only real problem I can think of with allowing porn on a plane is that the floors will start to imitate movie theaters.

I think thats why this is being brought up to begin with, people are getting offended. Personally, I dont think a plane is the place for it. There are to many people who bring their children on these flights, you have the elderly, religious people, as well as others who just dont care to see stuff like that.

It is also my opinion that if you have to stare at porn while on a cross country flight and cant wait 6 hours til you get into the comfort of your own home/hotel room then you have a problem that needs addressed. This has nothing to do with keeping yourself occupied during the flight, people have been flying without porn for years and they can do it now.

If it was I that was watching porn on the plane, why should I care what other people's beliefs are?! They do what they want and I'll do what I want! I sometimes have to listen to other people's kids balling their eyes out while I'm trying to relax, or having to listen to other people blab about their crap, etc. but they don't care, I have to still listen to it!

Take for instance, what if I was against people drinking alcohol on the plane, do you think they would stop that? Of course not, that's how they make a few extra bucks! If someone next to me was drinking it could be my belief that people should not drink and I don't want it around me! They would not take that beverage away from that person! They would not care!

I guess one solution would be to buy a privacy screen. That would help somewhat, at least it would mainly only be the person sitting directly behind you that could see what's on your screen.

If I was to have to purchase WiFi time, my browsing should not be filtered! I pay for it at home at a higher cost and it's not filtered!

And waht's to stop me from bring it preloaded on my laptop anyway?

I don't think they should even bother adding internet access to planes at all. The damn airlines are already having enough trouble keeping afloat what with the high price of fuel and all, why add more expense and bullshit. The airlines will be asking for another bail out soon enough so they should pump the brakes and slow their plasma roll mentality. The internet would be fun during a long flight but I see many problems arising from the use of net in front of children and most people have no ethics or morals these days...so you know some sicko is going to show some kids how to buttfuck. There are many other ways to offend people of different race or religious beliefs. Not a good idea.

I mean really...can't people do with out the internet long enough to get from point a to z?
