A flagship database intended to protect every child in the country will be used by police to hunt for evidence of crime in a "shocking" extension of its original purpose, The Daily Telegraph has learned.
[...]Prof Ross Anderson, an expert in security at Cambridge University, said: "This is yet another revelation about the database state that is shocking but not surprising.
"The police have always been able to look into whatever they want, but the information age changes the scale of that completely."
Phil Booth, national co-ordinator for the civil liberties campaign group No2ID, added: "Parents should know that this is not for the protection of their children, it could be used to prosecute them. This is a serious step on from what little has been told to the public."

I definitely agree to that. It's just misleading to call this the "child protection database"; based on this report when it appears to put them at legal risk.

First of all, if your a child you should know you dont have any rights. The number 1 right you do have is that if your being abused, you have the right to protect yourself and to do what means you have to get out of it. If you do a crime. Im glad they have you on record and will trace it back to you. If your victimized, they will get the person responsible. If your data is not secured, you shouldnt worry about pedophiles. You will be online sooner or later and make yourself the target that people tried to protect you from becoming. Your identity will be taken, you will be dumb enough to give out personal information.
Children are what they are. Uneducated spoiled little brats that scream for social networking and less school work.
