Hey all,
I've been a little stumped on a recent problem. I was turning on my laptop at one point and was trying to perfect some of my tunes. I was using a Logitech headset which has really decent sound quality, so very usable for what I'm doing. I suddenly get a message saying that Windows has updated the system and needs to restart. So, a little annoyed, I save everything and let the system restart.
When the system restarts, I suddenly get the error message: "USB Device not recognized one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it, for assistance solving this problem, click this message."
Click on message and, of course, Microsoft doesn't have an effing clue what to do (go figure)
I couldn't continue work because I was at a public WiFi hotspot and wasn't in the mood to disturb others while I tune a synth until it sounded good.
I think it's just a temporary issue and have since restarted my laptop numerous times, but still achieving the same results.
So lucky me, I have a machine with XP at my disposal. I finally get my chance to test it, but the same error message pops up. I'm a little upset because it is a very decent headset and it was only after the update the issues happened. It's like Windows decided it wasn't going to work and wanted me to fork even more money over to buy a new headset - is that wasteful or what?
I did what anyone should do when official sources are empty, I asked Google and only found about 3 people with the same issues, but no one with a solution.
So, does anyone here know of a possible solution to this? I've already got Windows to 'update the drivers' but it says that it's already installed. :(
I fortunately have an older headset on hand, but it's not quite as good because it doesn't block out external sound like my other headset (which is nice when producing music)
Any help greatly appreciated. :)

(i fear the worse) check to see if your headphones work on another system...if not, then sorry, but i think they got shorted. if thats the case then get them checked out by your dealer, and remember to be real nice to him/her since warranty doesn't cover these things...feign ignorance.
i have been known to be wrong more times than i care to remember. if this is one of those time and theres nothing wrong with the headphones, use system restore to roll back to a date before you installed the windows updates and see if that works.
good luck and let us know.
Logitech is great...but did you "install" disk that came with the headset (if they came with one)? I ask because their disks used to be loaded...
(I do not use any disk that comes with Logitech, so they may have stopped doing it.)
... with malware.
If any of your music was obtained in any way other than your buying it, well...they may have made a "deal" with someone. You know, the whole anti piracy thing.
Just a thought. Yeah. I'm ubernoid.

If it's USB, I'm thinking the the audio chipset for your headphones is causing the problem. Or is the USB connection for wireless listening? Are you by chance using them on a 64-bit OS? Do they show up in device manager? Have you tried disabling your laptop's onboard audio first through the bios? I'd see to getting the latest drivers from Logitech's website.
Gott da*n. I KNEW there was a reason...Wanna to have a thankless, pays nothing (Did I ask you this before?????) job??
