    Stupid Windows Explorer

Hey ya'll. I'm so ignorant in some ways, I don't even know how to post questions but maybe someone will read this. Recently, every time I go to Control Panel, it says "Windows Explorer has stopped working", then "Windows Explorer is re-starting". I am so frustrated I don't know what to do. I have Vista Home Basic. Can someone who is really SMART help me out? Maybe I changed some settings or preferences...i would PREFER that my freakin computer would work properly. Geez!!!! THANKS!!!! Janis in S.Carolina PS...hey to the drunk guy!!!!!

Okay my man, Ive been feeling your pain and waiting for someone else to respond but here is what I can gather or at least, here is something to try.

This is what one person posted they did to solve this problem:

Turn User Account Control on or off

User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users.

We don't recommend turning User Account Control off. If you do turn it off, you should turn it back on as soon as possible.

    1.

    Click to open User Accounts.
    2.

Click Turn User Account Control on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3.

Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box to turn on UAC, or clear the check box to turn off UAC, and then click OK.

    Or try

Reboot the system and tap f8. on the windows advance boot menu screen select repair. then either select system restore( without data loss) or factory image restore ( with data loss.) It will fix the issue.

I read one post that went like this:

OMG!! That error pop up error message was driving me NUTS!!! Thanks to you It is all gone...If you get to control panel, then programs, then programs & features, look for "windows warning" or "windows safety alert" (which is what mine said) then right clicked on it to uninstall, when it asks you to reboot, dont click yes just click cancel and Immediately the error message disappeared. Thank you soooooooooo much!!--

If you can't get to your control panel though thats not a solution

Do you see this error *only* when clicking on Control Panel in the Start Menu? What happens when you click on Computer, or your user name in the Start Menu? You can access the control panel from there.

From what I've read about this, Vista users are able to get to the control panel but once there it seems Windows throws them out and their desktop restarts. Weird. Im guessing this is Billy boys idea of security or something. Everyone who has this problem gets it after they get updates from MS.

I experienced something similar after installing Home Premium about a year ago on a laptop. Clicking on Control Panel would crash explorer. I couldn't even get to the Personalize menu by right-clicking on the desktop... nothing would happen. I referenced online, and it turned out that nVidia Control Panel was causing a conflict. An update from M$ eventually fixed the explorer crash.

UAC is a complete disaster, btw. I can't imagine how that would give any user a sense of security. That Mac commercial had it on the money.
