Unhappy getting frustrated trying to download movies

I am very new to this. I have downloaded kazaa lite, sig2, divx (a codec I think???), and lots of other things that I think I need to download and play movies. Now, I can get them downloaded and when I go to "theatre" in Kazaa, it will say its playing and the minutes are going, but I get nothing on the screen. So I tried downloading pictures and they worked fine.
    Is there something I forgot???

FYI, I have windows me, aol, and a dial up. Should I switch to cable internet??? Any suggestions???

    ok, welcome to file sharing

what version of kazaa lite do you have? for now I'll assume you have 2.x

DivX is a codec, it allows you to play divx encoded movies, what version of divx do you have?

Now, to the main part of your question, open the divx player, and search to your shared folder (the default is C:\Program Files\Kazaa\My Downloads), then open the movie

If it doesnt play, there are several things that could have happened
    -It is a damaged movie
-It is NOT a divx encoded movie
    -You need a newer version

also, could you give us the EXACT file names of the movies you tried to play? you may have gotten a fake, i have had several myself that were completely black and blank

    gl! :)

(one other thing i forgot to mention, cable internet will not change how a movie plays, but I would suggest it if you can afford it, you will be able to get movies in hours instead of weeks (usually), for me it was cheaper to drop AOL and switch to cable net, it added a few bux to our allready existing cable bill, it has been worth it)

also to make it easier, get this program http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ then install and run the program>find the file in question>open it>and the take a screenshot of the info or my copy it to text and post it.

This program tells you what codec the movie is using and it makes it easier for finding the right codec.

:devil You might also try playing the movie in a stand alone divx player. You can get a good one at www.divx.com. Once you get a stand alone player you need codecs to view downloaded movies. I would download the Nimo codecs at http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html. These codecs should be sufficient for damn near any movie file. Hope that answers your questions and good luck!:mellow

If you are talking about divx players, go to www.divx.com and download the free divx player. I use it along with the nimo codec pack and i can play any damn file possible. =D

    P.S.: Thanks for tip, Foreverboard.
yeah, DJ said, i think he meant the DivX Player 2.0 Alpha included with the free version

go to http://www.divx.com/divx/ and then click on the free version at the top, and then download

i honestly dont use the DivX player, it tends to lock up at every bug, windows media player works great for me, it crashes a LOT less than the divx player, and has more features, easier to use interface.....etc

i know most of you dont like WMP because of its normal MS bloated size, if your computer isnt the greatest, then WMP is not a good player for you, it takes quite a bit of ram (one other note about WMP, you have to install the Divx codec BEFORE you can use WMP to play divx movies)

one player i have heard a lot about is called the BS player, never used it personally, but ive heard great things about it

BSplayer can be found at http://www.bsplayer.org/

    gl jill, and happy holidays

Whichever media player you choose to play movies, I would recommend that you NEVER download Radlight. I had it and
loved it at first and had to uninstall it. I personally think it's the best player I've seen, but it's got crapware worse than most other programs. There's stuff in the exe files, both the shortcut
icon and the program, that attempts to uninstall adaware. Now
IF you want to pay $20 you can get a clean version, but it's not that special in my opinion. The only way to get rid of the crapware is to uninstall the exe files, which of course makes it
    useless.

Here's another bit of valuable advice:
PLEASE get rid of Windows ME. Most will agree that it is the worst OS ever created. I must say, I would almost rather go with 98, of all things.
Anyway, either run 2K or XP, if you must have Windows. Hell, even 95 is better.

first off, that was completely off topic

now, while I agree with you on this subject, it has been debated SOOOO many times, you really dont want to open this can of worms, I'm surprised CCS hasnt bitten your head off allready for dissing ME, he seems to think its worth running and is quote "stable" (lol, all in fun man....)

Thumbs up Back to codecs and DivX players

    Hello!

Back to original thread topic (AmSamoan, what have you drunk my friend? LOL), I tested all the above mentioned players, and ended up with hmm... cough... WMP old 6.4 version (sorry). :mellow

I had to download the DivX codecs to make it work. Watching "I Am Sam", BTW very good -- awesome soundtrack.

I tried the DivX Player 2.0 Alpha, and as phalkon30 pointed out, it was crashing with any minor bug... The others worked, but I preferred to stick with the simpler player that worked for me.

I really appreciated you guys feedback. :goodjob

*Glomps Jilly* Finally....someone with common sense! LOL WMP 6.4 is all I use....and if I'm stuck with some crap in WMP 8 (the codec) format I convert it.....

Yup, Divx Playa is a POS IMHO.....it crashed on lil errors in each movie plus the aspect ratio doesn't work to well....

Gor: I saw some article about Radlite....in a freakin newspaper of all places. It was just that crappy...
