Hi people, I have a computer that was working very well, but lately when I was working on a important project, there was a power fluctuation for a couple of times (I thought that was normal) but after the last power fluctuation my computer refused to boot up. There seems to be a failure of some kind…..but I need to get the projects back that are still in that disk.
I would be thankful if you could suggest any good tools to get the files and documents back.
Ontrack EasyRecovery is good for retieving data from hard drives which are still operational.
But if your hardrive is dead, as in, not even recognised by your BIOS, you would be looking at a lot of cash from a professional Recovery company to get your data back... and in my experience, they not very successful.
You could be a bit more specific?
Which OS?
What exactly comes up on your screen when you boot?
frequent incremental backups? not putting all your eggs in one basket? the best recovery is when you prepare for disasters beforehand, not scramble around afterwards
did you learn your lesson?
If the only problem you are having is power fluctuations and you computer refusing to boot, I'm not sure you need any "disaster recovery" tool.
You can either pull the hard drive out and put it in an external enclosure (about $20) or drop it into another computer as a slave drive. You might even do a repair install of windows, but I'd try to pull the data off the drive first.
A corrupted windows installation doesn't always translate to a damaged hard drive.
