    Donnie Darko 2?

Why lord, oh why!!??? IF you love this classic like I do I'm sure youre asking the same question.

Donnie Darko’ Sequel Being Made - ‘S. Darko’ Tells Younger Sister’s Story

Donnie Darko is one of my favourite movies ever, it’s probably in my top ten of all time. So when I first spotted the headline on my feed reader this morning that a sequel was being made, my eyes lit up like a fat kid in a sweet shop. However, after the initial shock and excitement, I now have mixed feelings on the announcement.

For starters, Richard Kelly, the man behind the original movie, which has now become a massive cult hit, is not involved in the sequel in any way. Which though not necessarily fatal, will definitely be a negative.

Then there’s the obvious fact that Donnie Darko sat by itself brilliantly. It left viewers with more questions than answers, and left you wanting more. BUT, you kind of didn’t want more, and a sequel is going to ruin that sense of intrigue and amazement that you are left with at the end of the original 2001 movie.

Donnie Darko started the career of one Jake Gyllenhaal, who is now Hollywood A-List. The sequel, titled S.Darko, is set to follow the story of his character’s younger sister Samantha, played by Daviegh Chase.

She travels across America with her best friend Corey only to start experiencing strange visions. Chris Fisher (Nightstalker) will be directing this time. According to Digital Spy, he said:

“I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly’s film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality. Donnie’s not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits.”

The film starts production on May 18th, and Fox has already secured North American distribution rights for the film.

I probably will go and see this when it eventually comes out, but if it ruins the legacy of the first film, and soils its memory, then I’ll never forgive Fisher for ruining one of my favourite movies ever.

Who do I have to shoot to ensure this does not get made?

They've got a hell of a lot to live up to. Even if it turns out surprisingly good, there will still be fans that will hate it.

I don't think I'm going to see it. I have a huge feeling it's going to end up like The Matrix where if they had just stopped at the first it would have been much better off.

Naw youre missing the point- The Matrix was brilliantly imagined piece of "cinema", the sequels they were just f**king with us- its like the machines played a practical joke on us by going off on a train wreck of a tangent... they were just distracting us from the truth...by making apperently s****y films ... i SEE THROUGH THEIR WORLD

well anyway Donny Darko 2/s has to be another bad idea - im with mels, if we have to cap someones ass to prevent this obviously idiot idea Im in

I couldn't care less(please notice <<<< "couldn't care less" not "could care less" ffs! how did that become common parlance in America???)
Anyway, the first Donnie Darko film was overrated imo
Normally yer typical cult classic films are right up my street but Donnie Darko did nothing for me.
Hopefully the second one will be better :-)

This reminds me of the Fight Club video game, the Spaceballs animated series and the endless parade of Cruel Intentions sequels....

    More is not always better.

You could care a little less. You could care enough less that you would skip over this thread.

They did a great job with the first one and this is just going to ruin what the first one was. :(

1st movie was excellent but i would not like to be biased against the second movie just because most of the sequels fail. the 1st movie worked primarily because of Jake Gyllenhaal apart from the story, direction, etc. so i guess much depends on this

I don'twant the movie makers to try and explain everything. Leave the 1st movie a bit of a mystery. I vote hollywood to go fuck itself on this one

^^ agree on that. leave the 1st part a mystery only.

what bothers me actually is that richard kelly, the man behind the 1st movie is missing. that means a high chance of fucking up

Cool bad idea, maybe, but if you dont fancy it, dont watch it.

mystery is one of the key ingredients that made donnie darko the intriguing and interesting film it was.
richard kelly so far has not followed his debut with anything matching the imagination of this.
his director's cut, whilst viewed as further explaination of the characters and ideas of donnie darko, was watchable and expanded on his time /travel /vortex ideas etc, essentially it demistified everthing that grabbed the attention in the first place, so kelly not being invoved in the sequel does not necessarily damage it's chances of being a successful story in it's own right. also his scripts for others (domino) have been letdowns, and southland tales was a mess even after the re-edit.
maybe this will be an interesting companion piece to the original, maybe it will be SHITE. who knows. watch it or not. it's getting made, there is nothing to be done to stop it now.

    all the best,
