    Techno

I mostly listen to Rock & Rap. I have read that some of you like Techno. I also think my friends at school listen to Techno. Does anyone have any opinions on good Techno to *cough*cough* buy? I am interested in listening to this stuff, I might even like it!

    Thanks

    wow!

i am scared... how long has this thread been up? i haven't seen anyone flame him for mentioning music ....i am sure that will come tho.

I'd say old paul oakenfold is great. DJ Tiesto. Juno Reactor is really great too. If u want a good selection the swordfish sound track is great. Depending on what app you use like winmx. I'd IM people that you ar downloading from and ask them for suggestions. Sometiemsthe best Techno is stuff that is being passsed round from ear to ear.

I have to agree with Krell on this one, use p2p

some of my favorite artists are Paul Oakenfold, Sasha & Digweed, DJ (i like dj tiesto, dj sammy, and some others like that, just add a random name after dj, and you will find stuff)

if you want some free LEGAL stuff, go to http://www.tranceaddict.com/singles.php

I listen to techno almost 24/7, if you need some more artist names or good clasic techno songs, PM me and I'll give you some more info

If you're looking for a good cd, I would suggest Paul Oakenfolds Tranceport, and Cream Anthems, I share both on WinMX and should be up for at least another 24hrs straight, so try getting those, look for cream anthems 2001 whole album, and tranceport whole album

one other cool thing to look for, is techno remix's, its amazing how many there are, ive found clasical orchestra (betoven), to scooby doo!

gl, and welcome to the techno/trance world, trip out

    do yourself a favor and

a.) don't download moby (first, he's in no way "techno"... he uses lots of electronica styles in his music, but imho he should have stuck to punkrock... can't stand his piano samples anymore)

b.) search a little more widespread than just entering the word "techno", as this will most likely just lead you to the commercially most succesful tracks, often trance music by UK djs like sasha, paul oakenfold, pete tong etc.

there are lots of different subgenres... lots of people even consider house and all its substyles (as minimal, garage, tribal, detroit, chicago...) a techno-subgenre.

start off by checking out tracks & dj-sets by some of these artists:

laurent garnier, chris liebing, der dritte raum, jeff mills, sven väth, dj hell, dave clarke, miss kittin.

maybe even some goa trance... like koxbox or green nuns of the revolution...

don't bother looking for good stuff on gnutella/kazaa/edonkey... just get soulseek. (http://www.slsk.org)

Well you can BUY music at a cd store. However, most places won't have a very good selection of techno. I suggest goint to http://www.digitallyimported.com/ and listening to their streams. They also have some boards for house, trance, etc.

Very well informed, that was perfect and I agree 100%... it's best to use soulseek for any kind of electronica, including techno. Once you're there, go to a few electronica chatrooms and get peoples' lists, then use those names and search the network, and you should find enough to make you happy :)

    Ian Van Dahl AWESOME,
Also if you like melodic trance/dance music Robert Miles is a very brilliant composer and his songs have very strong melodies that you dont tire of (In other words it isnt the same 4 notes repeated for 5 minutes)

im not sure exactly what would be described as techno anymore. it used to be clearly defined back in the days of detroit techno with stuff like inner city and derrick may doin the rounds.
i suspect when 12345678910 says "techno" what he means is electronic music generally, maybe im wrong.
paul oakenfold is a good recommendation to start with. it might also be a good idea to go for some early electronic innovators like kraftwerk, to give you a feel for how the whole electronic genre began. Listen to albums like "man machine" and "autobahn" and you wont believe they were made in the early 1970s
im not much of a fan of nosebleed techno music, i prefer my electronica more laid back. something like aphex twin is more for me, and autechre is also good. the orb made some cool stuff especially their groundbreaking albums "UForb" and " adventures beyond the ultraworld" . orbital are cool, and some of william orbits stuff i like.
these are very personal choices of course (as always with music) but maybe along with some of the other comments here will give you some idea of where to start.

edit: by the way i have most of the stuff mentioned here on mp3, if you want to download anything PM me and ill put it on my ftp server for you to download.

    Hmmm...

...I see that ppl here have a broad idea of what Techno is...nothing wrong with that...but still, not everything with a 4/4 beat is Techno.
    Anyway, some suggestions...
    - If you want pure Techo (the industrial, beat-heavy and percussive kind) check out : Carl Cox, Umek, Gaetek, Marco Carola, Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela, Oscar Mulero, Ben Sims, Gaetano Parisio and Adam Beyer.
    - If you want something a bit more tribal and progressive, go for : Sasha, John Digweed, Steve Lawler, Lowend Specialists, Deep Dish, James Holden, Hernan Cattaneo, and Dusk (a DJ friend of mine :) )
    - For Trance, I´d say Paul Oakenfold, Cosmic Gate, Astral Projection, DJ Tiesto, Ian Van Dahl, Armin Van Buuren and Paul Van Dyk.

To check out all of these styles of music, some sites offer you the chance to download some great DJ sets :
    - DJ Mixes
    - AudioBeats
    - MercuryServer

As for a good P2P app for this kind of music, use SoulSeek!
    Stupid people shouldn´t breed.

Nah, he's more like... 6 notes repeated for 5 minutes. C'mon, you can't seriously consider Robert Miles being a "composer".
