FilesWire: Online Web Based P2P Client

Hi everyone, my name is james me and my team have just released a new and exciting p2p service called FilesWire. FilesWire is an online p2p files sharing client there is nothing to download and nothing to install, you can begin sharing instantly.

FilesWire is based on a platfrom called G3 and I would like your feedback on what will be the eventual usage of the platform. G3 will be delivered as an API and Software library that software and web developers can insert into their own projects to give their application file sharing capabilities. The library deals with low-level networking and therefore makes it a very simple process for developers to create p2p clients.

The FilesWire.com site will enable us to test the G3 platform thoroughly before we make it available for public consumption

Please visit http://www.fileswire.com to use the service.

Throughout this beta phase any queries or feature requests should be directed to: [email protected]

    thank you
    james

    That may be because this line should be;
TO SHARE DIRECT FROM YOUR IE BROWSER!
They don't make it clear that their service works only on IE, for the time being anyway.

Not trying to bash your new service, jaybaby, I am all for new innovations in filesharing, but I am yet to understand its mechanisms.

How does your network function? A topographic overview would be nice, I am not a programmer, but I do have some familiarity with how p2p networks function.
Nobody can start over and make a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

    re service

Hi rainbowdemon, im sorry that you have been experiencing difficulties with the service. Are you able to provide any specific details about the error and also at what point the error occurs?

Generally the service should work as follows:

    1)Navigate to fileswire.com

2)From the main page click the "start" button.

3)you will then be presented with a screen that informs you about some key details about the current service. From this screen click "start fileswire"

4)At this point the appilcation interface will be loaded and you will be asked to accept the certificate. click OK to proceed. After a short time (approx 5 seconds) you will be prompted with a message that reads "successfully connected to network".

5)you should then beable to search for a resource.

Please be aware that the system uses no central servers; all content is provided by other peers on the network, as such search results will improve the longer you are online. Allow up to three minutes for the service to become fully connected.

Should you have any other queries regarding the service, then please post back here or contact our support team at: [email protected]. We aim to respond to all messages within 24 hour period.

    thank you.

    Hi carpefile,

The fileswire.com service uses a platform that we have developed called G3.

G3 has been developed to simplify the process of creating p2p clients. Developers often spend years developing new clients, however the general message passing routines and network transactions at the heart of these clients are very similar regardless of what network the client is intended for. These routines generally include:

    1) a network discovery mechanism (a way for clients to find other clients on the network)

    2) a boot routine(will define how a client initially connects to the clients found in step1)

    3) resource discovery(basically denotes how searches are to be carried out)

    4)a download mechanism.

In this context G3 completly abstracts and takes care of the above steps and allows developers to concentrate on other aspects of their application. Developers simply add the G3 software library to their projects an then use its high level interface to discover,boot-strap,search and download from other peers on the network.

With regards to the networks being used, we have currently developed two extensions for the platform one is our own G3 PROTOCAL and we have also just added an extension for the GNUTELLA PROTOCAL. Theoretically we should beable to code extensions for any existing protocal. These extensions seemlessly intergarate into the platform and automatically provide access to resources from these networks via the same high-level library interface. From a developers point-of-view this makes creating p2p clients a very simple process.

    G3 Protocal

I am aware that this is a non-tech forum so I wont go into full details here, we do intend to make the G3 protocal open source following the beta testing phase; full documentation on the protocal will also be provided at this point.

In a nutshell though the protocal is fully decentralized, various users on the web operate, what we term as a "Network Gateway" when a client connects it must boot-strap to one of these gateways and also provides a list of files that it wishes to share. The gateway then responds with "PONGS" containing info of other clients who are online. A G3 client will then connect to each of these peers and use these peers to search for resources on the network. Once a desired resource is found, then a direct download is initiated between the two peers.

I hope this answers your questions with regards to the G3 platform and Protocal.

    Thanks
    James
