Thoughts On Latest News About FTN

FTN, being so exclusive and having such good access to scene stuff, I was wondering what people's thoughts are now that the "scene" is after FTN's owner/admin, just like SuperTorrents.

The scene mentions "cutting FTN off". Apparently, the scene is not happy with the lack of security in the BT community, which jeopardizes the scene's own security.

There was also a mention about scene releases "leaking" out to the BT sites via one source, a pay-per-leech source that many high level BT sites are members of.

well ftn is one of the best sites out there, i have to say. it does get alot of the scenes stuff, but i dont see how they are going to cut off FTN from the scene, sounds impossible. but i think they are concentrating to hard on ftn and rather they should look at more of the lower down trackers whihc have open sign ups and stuff.

the scene did go after FTN's owner and they released information about him, it was quite bad actually just reading the info, i couldnt download it, it was just wrong, but it went crazy on SCT.

but the guy said it was mostly fake info, such as the phone number. he said he is back now and it looks like he is looking for revenge, just now they had a few upgrades so it wiil be interesting

So you're saying that the scene's also targeting ScT? I don't know, I thought the scene allowed its stuff to be shared somewhat outside it's inner circle, you know, for prestige purposes (I know all the NFO's say that their releases are meant only for the scene)?

I'm not sure how much FTN can strike back at the scene, since FTN's sort of dependent on the scene for releases, unfortunately...

BTW, what are the upgrades you mention in "they had a few upgrades..."?

well i dont think they are going after SCT but they really should cause they steal alot from them.

well they have had some hardware upgrades which can only mean that they gonna mean serious business.

but sct pays alot of money for scene so i think the scene doesnt mind that much really, cause they get alot of money. but yea they went after the site owner after he had left the site which was pretty dumb and now he has come back and is eager to get underway i would say

Probably. And the scene maybe has 50K people in in total. MAYBE.

Some people say that only a small minority of the scene are doing these cavalier/crusader attacks against BT sites, and that most of the scene do not agree with the attacks against ST and FTN.

Those guys are kids. Anyone who is anything in the scene probably does not condone them.

I think baksteen was suggesting that FTN's in the process of upgrading its server hardware, which would allow it to handle more members/traffic, etc.

But it doesn't sound like the scene cares about distributing its works (all the NFO's I've read sound like the scene discourages distribution). So a powerhouse BT site like FTN would actually run counter to what the scene wants? Therefore, the only leverage I can see FTN and any other BT sites having over the scene is money, that is, money which flows from the BT sites paying per leech to access the TRULY exclusive core scene sites.

He is a very nice guy. I don't think FTN is upgrading in some desire to handle more members.

Probably and the scene has lots of money from friendly donators. And why would you pay to leech? Getting in the scene is easy. Offer something. Get a job at a printing plant, ebgames, gamespot, walmart, internship at company, learn to crack, cd store. Then just take the prerelease stuff and mail the email on the nfos and say I want to join and they ask for a sample or a list of what you have. Give it to them. Give them a bunch of stuff and build up trust and your in. Take this from a guy who knows and who has talked to people. Scene access is not worth it if you just want to leech. Too much work and if you just want to pirate and share use bittorent, irc, newsgroups and FXP boards. Maybe once you have been doing it for a while can you get away it, but if your new, chances are you wont.

    That's a damn shame.

Honestly for them to attack someone who knows who they are but isn't retaliating is just sad.
