Powered Speaker Hum

Hi,

I got these powered speakers for christmas.......

The problem is when I connect the speakers there is a noticeable hum/buzz sound coming from the right speaker.

The speakers are conneted together using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.

Does anyone know how I can eliminate this buzz?

The problem doesn't occur when the speakers aren't connected together. It also doesn't occur when I connect the problem speaker to my laptop so I don't think its a faulty speaker. Only seems to be when the 2 are joined together.

Any advise greatly appreciated!! :)

Usually speaker hum is caused by a poor ground. Check your cable connections.

check if there is a problem with those speakers in particular. I remember getting a samsung some time ago, and after googling noticed tons of them came faulty with the same issue

power block conditioner, grounding or thicker more shielded cables

So they hum when they are just sitting not connected to any source? This could be poor grounding, or bad design. You could try them in a different power socket and see if that helps, or even running it through a UPS power strip.

If its while its connected to a desktop, this could be due to integrated audio getting interference from the other motherboard components. This often distinguishable because the hum will follow your mouse actions, or screen fluctuations. For this simply buy a PCI soundcard and disable the onboard audio.
