Update the firmware on the DVD drive

Un install and re install the burning software

    Do in that order.

If you have Nero, use the Nero Infotool to get info about your burner and DVDs etc, and be sure that the disks you burn are in perfect condition. They can be new and still be crap.

Has anything changed just previously to your burner no longer functioning properly?
    New hardware or software installed?
You should upgrade to the latest firmware for your burner.

It may or may not help, but it definitely won't hurt.

i just swapped over my 10 month old lite-on, for a sony.
i should have read the above advice first but problems solved anyway.

kept getting "power calibration failure" with nero and it never liked dvdrw's
