    Backing up(spanning)with Nero

I have a relatively simple question.I use several file sharing programs and usually back up as I go(i.e. get a cd's worth)but I have let my Kazaa Lite folder get out of hand (about 3-4 gigs)with unbacked up mp3's.I want to back them up as data files to get the most for my blank cd dollar.(Well ,cents)
I'm fairly new to Nero.(Reformed Roxio user)Do I have to just kept selecting files individually(or drag and drop a chunk of 'em) until the capacity for one cd is reached, burn that and then go back to where I left off and pick up from there or can I somehow do a "select all" and just keep popping in blank cd's as the previous one fills up,like backing up a hard drive?
Basically my question is does Nero have spanning capabilities or is there any way to do what I'm trying to do?It's really more of a curiousity thing than anything.
(And yes I know Kaaza sux,but they have more of the obscure and rare audio files I d/l).

if you have xp and NTFS forget it, because it's not supported (the hdd backup spanned disc function)

what i do is what you suggested--do it in chunks with individual data cd's--700 mb of mp3's on each disc (hopefully in a semi-organized fasion so that you can find the songs later)

break your shared folder into subfolders, then burn each folder to disc--that's easy

as for "rare" files your idea of rare must be a lot different than mine, because the files i want are never on kazaa

with nonxp systems, you can choose "burn hd backup" from the
"file" menu and make a spanned multi cd hdd backup--but it can only be restored as a whole, not just certain parts

it's easier just to save the files you want, and not waste space on all of the system files and crap

my mp3s would be more like a backup, since i have 110GB of them and they are on their own 160 GB HDD(i use the term liberally, as true backups [system files etc] i couldn't give a fuck about losing)

i have gone from full hdd to empty and reinstalled system crap at least 25 times in the last 2 years, and i'll do it more i'm sure (i also used ghost to move everything from my old 40GB to my new 80Gb)office xp didn't like that, i had to call my ol buddies in redmond to make it work again

    gah...*mumbles under breath* xp.....

so is there any program that can span multiple cds? i have been looking for something like this for a long time

my other thought is, if you have enough hd space, couldnt you zip them, then split the zips?

oh, and another question, is there any program that aranges mp3's to fit on multiple cds, like so i get the least amount of wasted space? i have over 7 gig of mp3's that i want to backup, but its a ton of work to sit and figure out the best order so that i dont waste cds

yeah you could zip them, but its wasted effort--mp3's are already compressed, so they arent going to get any smaller

i load everything onto cd's in album form--then i watch the little space-o-meter on the bottom of nero that tells me how close to full i am--too much take out an album, not enough, add another

ghost can do it (spanning) but your burner needs dos support (which mine didn't have)

exactly what im looking for.....i think

if i have 7gig of mp3 i want on cds, does it have to make another 7gig on my hard drive?

also, can i restore files from ONE cd and not all of them?

hmm, maybe i should wait with these questions until the link its posted.....

cool program, i will try it when i get some time today

just looking over it...it sounds like it rearanges my files, this would be a bad thing, my mp3's are categorized by artist, i dont want to have to sort through them again....

but i will post later to verify that

    thanx

Lenno: LMFAO Yes I'm gonna call ya Lenno from now on.....I believe it gives you the choice of copy or move. So you can make copies if you want the original layout intactic or moves 'em if you don't have the space (or give a shit about it moving files).
