    Shrinkage formula

    Hi Guys !

Looking for a formula that involves shrinkage in the liquid (petrol).

Googling hasn't help. Looked at wikipedia and maths sites.

My knowledge and jargon is limited. I have a feeling that I have overlooked what I'm looking for.

This formula will be used in Excel 2007.

I understand more information maybe needed. Please don't hesitate to PM me.

    Thanks in advance.

I was in the pool! I was in the pool!

    Do women know about shrinkage?
What do you mean, like laundry?
    No.
Like when a man goes swimming... afterwards...
    It shrinks?
    Like a frightened turtle!
    Why does it shrink?
    It just does.
I don't know how you guys walk around with those things.

Just for reference for the original thread starter: most Americans here have seen a certain episode of the comedy series, Seinfeld, which involves "shrinkage" of a certain male organ. Anyway, you might want to specify more what you mean by the word "shrinkage."
My current setup stats (like anyone cares...):

    ASUS A8N32-SLI Motherboard
    AMD 4400+ Dual-Core CPU
    Windows Vista (Ultimate 32bit)
2 GB (2x1GB) Corsair XMS RAM
2x250 GB (in RAID 0) HDDs
EVGA GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB
    Creative X-FI Fatal1ty XtremeGamer

    Also sporting a black MacBook
    Revision/Release 1
    Upgraded to 2GB RAM.

Are you referring to thermodynamic charts? Like are you trying to find out how petrol reacts in terms of its liquid phase? If so what kind of gas are you looking for exactly, octane, does it have ethanol, diesel? Need to be more specific.

Maybe that shrinkage could be the wrong term. Wasteage or leakage ?
Wasteage through the bowser at the gas station. From holding tank (underground storage) to bowser to car.
The product is diesel and unleaded petrol and octane, none of these product have ethanol or any other by products.
Can match the "should be reading" to the "actual reading" of the tank. The Dip (can be at times not accurate).
There may be a formula to allow for this variation ???
The industry standands is 18 litres per day (0.38l an hour) detection.

Oh, now that makes more sense. As to where you can get your hands on this information I have no idea. But you are making me think about this topic. The daily loss of fuel due to leakage around the world per day is probably enormous. Individually each gas station probably looses next to nothing but all together, very interesting perspective. What are you working on exactly if you don't mind me asking.

I may be totally off-base (and loathe Excel), but are you needing to use a "what if" formula?

I wish it was that easy.

I got a feeling that some fancy percentage formula is involved.

    *thinking*

Will think that idea through, at the moment any idea is a good one.

I looked in my 2 year old textbook, but it was more an introductory to, and I couldn't find it.

I looked at those links, even looked at the second link this morning. I believe the second link needs more attention.

As far as the "what if" statement, don't know because the two bits of final info is information that is hardcoated info. That's what i believe.

Maybe look at the simple percentage different between the final answers. Then turn that percentage into litres per day or per hour ?? How to convent back.

This is much fun as getting out of bed and tucking your own feet back into bed. hey!
