Reputation Abuse

Alright, we know that the reputation system has been a somewhat pain since its implementation a few years ago(!), but it's something we just have to live with. People, as with anything, abuse it. The abuse has been noticeably worse recently.

A few points:
1. Stop giving positive reputation to your clone(s) because that's just simple and stupid abuse.
2. Stop giving reputation for the sole purpose of expecting some in return, or asking for some in return through the comments. It's fairly obvious who is doing this. Comments such as "would you like to trade rep?" are considered abuse.
3. Stop asking people for rep via PM. The goods will come to you if you don't suck. Most of you know this and understand this.
4. Stop trolling via rep. At least it's not anonymous anymore. (thanks for the suggestion, moneoa)

I don't plan to obey these if you cement them as rules. Mels is right Tater. You've acted way different about rep since you hit 10K.

Maybe it has gone right to your head.

I like to give new clones a dash of rep. It helps with the immediate confusion about whether or not I'm serious.

the rep system is soo full of holes, it's bound to be abused at some point of time. you cant put a kid in a sandbox and not expect him to build castles...we either live with it, or do away with the system altogether. i don't think its feasible to expect all users to follow these guidelines, though they're of an honorable intent IMHO.

I think the only thing the rep system does is add another layer of hazing... which I actually find good.


It helps to find out whether or not someone will survive this forum.


And, overall, I don't think ZP is any worse for flaming than any other large public forum.

ZP has come a long way indeed. Hazing and smitting is at an all time low at ZP. Is that good or bad?
Rep bombing however, is definitely not a good way to berate someone that you have had a grievance with in the past. As some members can testify, doing this can get you the long good-bye.
