    Can a proxy get me around my local network?

    Hey guys,
    Here's the deal, I was using bt and my local network, my building's network, shut me down -- without warning (I'm not sure how legal that is). They expressed knowledge of me using p2p software, though I'm unsure specifically what they monitor for. Networking is not a specialty of mine, and I don't know much about proxies, but wanted to know if I could use a remote proxy in order to hide my bt use from the network in the future.

    Edit:

    The only solution is to encrypt your traffic, so they won't be able to see what you're doing.

    If you use a proxy make sure it supports SSL..

    SSL= Single Socket Layer (protocol).

    You can read more about it here.

    Use a HTTP-Tunnel service to get around it.

    While this may thwart them from knowing that it is p2p traffic, it's likely that they're not stupid and will know that the huge amounts of bandwith is coming from you.

    I would really suggest finding your own ISP, sounds like your using either a buisness or community building service... If you must use that, look into a virtual server or something. No way to monitor whats not on their network...

    well, if you have access to a computer outside the network there, you could set it up with a secure shell server and then tunnel your bt traffic through that.

    if this be the case and you would like to learn more info about it just shoot me a pm.
