Hi,
Let me begin my apologising if this question has been answered before. Recently, using Azureus, I downloaded a slew a, of what I thought were, mp3 audio files. But try as I might, nothing will play them, and nothing either will convert them into something that is playable. Any application I try returns either an error or that it is an unrecognised file type. I suspect they are either corrupt, which seems likely, or they are copy protected, which begs the question as to why I was able to download them in the first place.
Hope someone out there has a either an answer or a solution.
Thanks.
There are hired groups that flood networks with fake files. IM guessing they do the same on BT. I know they do use methods to corrupt files too so It could be that also.

Forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question as I am not trying to insult you, but do you have your codecs installed? you can use G-Spot to find out what you are missing-
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
and then dl your K-Lite Pro (codecs) from here.
Also, have you tried converting with dBpoweramp? They have a trial version you can dl from their site (full)-

Is all that needed for MP3's?

They might not be mp3s...
gspot should shed some light on the matter.

I thought Gspot was only for video files, my bad.
From the info he provided I still lean toward fake files. Its the most common problem with music and movies. If someone went to the trouble of changing the file extensions I would dump em anyway. There is no telling what you may have there.
It would be funny if the files were not complete though.

Thanks for the input. According to Azureus, the download was complete; since I use a Mac, GSpot isn't what I'm looking for, but the Mac equivalent would be useful; I'm running out of codecs to install. That leads me to a philosophical(!) question: why post fake or corrupt files?
I'm inclined to dump them outright: I can live without them, but now I'm interested to know what they are?

No I'm not interested enough to risk my computer: bummer. I'm intrigued to know what these damn files are, but clearly it's not worth the risk. Thanks for you help and advice.
