Fix the Leak or I will sink the Ship

I recieved that message last night and was wondering what I need to do now. Here is the information on what I am running.

    1. Linksys Router Befsr41 4 Port
    2. 2 DHCP clients
    3 Firmware 1.43.3, Nov 15 2002
    3. 1st computer WINXP Pro
    4. 2nd Computer Win 2000

Used port triggering and forwarding to open the ports
    1. 6053 p2p File sharing
    2. 1214 p2p file sharing
    3. 4662 4665
I Have changed the password on the router and the IP address from 192 to 194.

Should I worry about this or is it just a kid playing games.

Also what do I need to close to make this work. SHould I go get a copy of zone alarm or is this ok. I appreciate any help that is given.

Check it out, I have nearly the same set up. But all that forwarding and triggering aren't set up on mine. I run Gnucleus and Kazaa Lite and have no problems sharing or downloading. Try getting rid of the forwarding/triggering and see what happens. Also on the Router's set up pages, the Advanced Tab, the Filters Tab, you should have Block WAN Request: Enabled AND Remote Management: and Remote Upgrade: Disabled. Change the password you use to access the router. The default is admin, so you need to come up with something hard to guess/crack(four letters, four numbers, four letters would work nicely). The only other thing I can think of is someone put some sort of logger on your system. Run Ad Aware to check for spyware. Do you have any friends who would play a cruel joke on you? This might be them. How did you receive this message, was it by email, pop up, IM, etc? Just wondering.

ok....what medium did this come accross?

if it was using XP's messaging feature (not to be confused with MSN messenger), then you should just turn off that "feature"

if you scroll down a ways, there is an area that tells you how to turn it off at http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

you may want to check the rest of the settings, there are other security holes that can be closed if you dont use these "features"
