New measure would add 2 cents to the cost of every legal music download.
The Copyright Board of Canada has approved a proposal by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) to levy a tax on every digital music download sold online.
The tax would amounts would be as follows:
Permanent downloads: 3.4% of the amounts paid by the consumer with a minimum fee of 1.7¢ per file in a bundle and 2.3¢ per file in all other cases;

So we pay this tax which nobody else in the world has, but we can't have Demonoid, which everybody else in the world has. That makes sense.
Quite frankly it seems a little strange, they are making a profit off the sale of mp3's they already get a portion of all other sales. But for some reason want you to pay a tax on top of the sale... HOW THE HELL DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? This is like taxing a music cd to help pay artists.

and thats exactly what they're promoting apparently. whats the tax for anyway? to compensate music companies for stuff illegally downloaded? so this means...let me get this straight...people who legally buy their content have to pay for low lifers like me who download music illegally?

Well i only buy songs after i listen to them and only way to do that is online... any ways most of the music i have downloaded has gotton deleted expect for very old 80's rap songs...
