Disturbing trend: GAMES with activation in them!

It seems there is a disturbing trend in game protection these days. Now two games Bio shock and Tarr chronicles have BOTH introduced online activation of these games to where consumers must call a phone number if they go OVER the times that the game specifies to install on a computer. Does not matter if the game has technical issues or not and you have to re-install it to fix them.

With Tarr chronicles it WAS 3 then changed to 5 times before you had to call a number and get a new activation code. I do not know what the number is with Bio Shock.

Are these people stupid or what? Win XP was cracked within a VERY short time of it's release...Vista the same....and NOW they want to start activation with games that are ALREADY cracked and out on the net?

All that is doing is alienating regular people that want to buy the retail game and follow the rules. You ought to hear some of the upset people on the Tarr Chronicles board! It seems more and more that customers are considered criminals by companies before they have ever done anything and THEN the people who actually PAY for the product, get shafted!

Kinda reminds me of the movie and music industry who trusts their customers about as far as they can throw them.

This will not even make a dent in piracy, but it WILL alienate people who might have bought the game like myself.

it makes them alot harder to copy i guess, but yea in the long run its alot like music where it mostly just screws over the people who obtain it legally. *remembers buying metalica cd* *shutters*

90% of games are cracked before they are even released to the public i would never spend £30 on any game without trying first

These checks just alienate legitimate customers and make them mad. As stated above, the games are cracked and released on the net before they are released in public. This means only legitimate users have to deal with this activation crap, with the exception of online multi player games, which normally require pirates to go buy a legit copy to play online.

I think if they're going to introduce activation, they should do it like Steam. Activate it once and then it's on your account forever. Although, I really can't even support that. It's just that in the future we're going to be seeing more of it. So if it has to be there, I would prefer the more convenient option.

Personally I find micro transactions the growing scourge of the gaming industry, thanks allot Microsoft you greedy bastard. Thanks to micro transactions you are being offered a game with fewer features to encourage you to buy more. Or even worse you have companies removing cheat codes and instead are charging you for such cheats. The gaming industry has gone full fledged into the same kind of idiotic tactics as the music. Rather then give people what they want the give you rehash after rehash and find more and more ways to charge you more while doing it.

I can see what you are saying, but still....it will probably be that those games are just activated once and then spread on the net! LOL!

If these game developers would listen to their customers, they would find out that all they are doing is making people stop buying games like these.

So if they are in a slump, they really have no one to blame but themselves.

No action may be brought under this title alleging infringement of copyright based on the noncommercial use by a consumer for making digital musical or analog musical recordings.
