Demonoid is up again just checked it. Start downloading
Yes its up again, thanks
yipee!! but read the first announcement in the homepage...!!!
I'm gonna delete all my torrents and stop uploading anymore torrents... Only downloads for me from now on...
Yeah, if you don't want to share files, newsgroups are the way to go. You usually have to pay for a decent news server, but you do get your downloads at full speed. And it is much more safe to use than torrents.
But it would not be fair to use a torrent network to just leech. Torrents are depending on seeders, newsgroups do not.
how did it get put up again? what happened with the legality thing?
I didn't mean I'll stop seeding at demonoid. I just meant that I'll stop creating new torrents! Since demonoid is a hybrid of private and public tracker, it will be quite dangerous to create new torrents there since they can easily get hold of the users IP. I feel that people who create torrents are in more trouble than those just downloading and seeding it.
@meyou123: I've already started to switch over to newsgroups since Demonoid was down. I'm getting speeds more than the theoretical value of my connection when I'm downloading from there as well as private trackers like midnight-torrents, oink, bwtorrents, thebox etc. I'm really surprised!! I'm on a 2mbit connection and I'm able to download around 5.5 GB in 6 hours!
@isus: I'm just stopping at demonoid while I'll continue to seed everywhere else. And "thanks" for the rep.
According to leaked media defender emails, they have infiltrated oink. To me its a safe bet that pretty much all the best private trackers have moles.
IMHO, a small organized group of guaranteed huge sharers, with exhaustively detailed records of their activities, is a much more attractive target than a public tracker that's visited by millions of hit'n'runners daily.
I'm not saying this is true or trying to start rumors, but for all we know, demonoid's servers are honeypots now. I'm just saying, while not likely, it is possible.
In very recent testing (Sep 30), Slyck found that only 1.09% of media defenders known ips were blocked by bluetack in their sample. I know their sample is not exactly definitive of the entire scope of what bluetack covers, but I think its safe to say they aren't 99% effective in blocking baddies.
I know I'm paranoid, but like Nirvana said, "Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you."
Nobody can start over and make a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.
