    which free anti virus?

my norton subscription that came with my laptop expired. i want to remove it and get either avast or avg. do they do the same work as norton? do you think they are good? i especially don't want one that slows my internet connection because it's already very slow.
    thanks :)

    Avast or AVG

They both get excellent reviews. I lean more towards Avast, myself.

    Both are good.
For my system though, it seems that AVG runs faster.
I tried Avast for the first time last week after using paid for (including Norton, McAfee and BitDefender) apps and AVG (mostly) these last 4 years. I really did like it, but I am using some graphic apps, and combined with Avast, my computer was running slower.
    I switched back to AVG.
On a side note, when you are ready to uninstall Norton, you may want to use the
Norton Removal Tool to remove all traces.

Goodness no. Never. Too many people want to add their own presents to AV torrents.

    No.

Seriously? I have never paid for AV. I wouldn't get it from a site that allows you to upload anything. If it was from a site that allows on scene releases I'm all over it. (well that and the fact that I have Symantec corporate from work)

I know that's true on public trackers and even demonoid too, perhaps, but not on reliable private trackers.

Please do not be offended, but I am a member of a very private and reliable tracker, still I will not risk my computer. There is a first time for everything.
Call me cautious if you will.
I wouldn't care if it were uploaded by God. I'm not going to risk it.

I've been through Avira, AVG, and now Avast.

I can say that thus far, I have been VERY happy w/ avast.

I have been risking it with NOD32 for several years. I won't say what tracker I got it from, but I feel confident the uploader did not sabbotage the software. I also ghost my partitions regularly and would be up and running shortly after, if the worst was to happen. Like I said, I would not trust public trackers or demonoid for anything with and executable extention.

Helena, it really depends on the tracker. I only have a couple I really trust, but that is because they are close nit communities. The files have many seeders and have been snatched hundreds of times with loads of positive comments. To each their own though...

Watch this site now and then:
    http://www.av-comparatives.org/seite...se_2007_08.php
I think best comparative test and AV analyses on the net.
Dont use cracked AV software !!! A few of the best is free anyway. Or you can keep trying different trial AV. Always something new.
