I loved it. I've never been more impressed with Rowan Atkinson, and he's done some pretty impressive work. It took incredible balls for him to take a character with a fairly dedicated niche market and alter him.
It's definitely not for everyone. I'd categorize it as an art-house film posing as a mainstream picture. It's also heavily infused with smart-silly humor, which, like Monty Python, can get on people's nerves. Not my nerves, though. Lastly, it's an incredibly positive and uplifting film without coming off as being saccharine. Some people just don't want to be happy or childlike.
You know how some people will applaud a street mime while others in attendance are secretly plotting mime-cide? This is definitely one of those times.
Atkinson captures a purity and a naivety on film that, imo, hasn't been captured in 50 years.
