Losing Internet Connection When Downloading Large Files With Utorrent...

I found alot of little tips and tweaks that should prevent this, but i am yet to solve the problem. Anyone else had this problem and gotten past it.

SLOW/INTERRUPTED INTERNET CONNECTION OR OFFLINE TRACKERS while µTorrent is running


* Disable IP resolving in the Peers tab context menu

* Try disabling DHT (Can be found in Preferences > BitTorrent)

* Try disabling UPnP and NAT-PMP (Can be found in Preferences > Connection)

* Try disabling peer.resolve_country if it isn't already set to false (Can be found in Preferences > Connection)

* Try lowering maximum global number of connections to 200? 100? 50? (Can be found in Preferences > BitTorrent)

* Lower net.max_halfopen to 4 (Can be found in Preferences > Advanced)

* Patched TCPIP.sys (Windows XP w/ SP2, Windows 2003 w/ SP1, or newer)? Windows Vista users can try this out, but no guarantees are made. Users not on Windows XP w/ SP2, Windows 2003 w/ SP1, Windows Vista, or newer can skip this step.

* Connect your computer directly to the modem to make sure the problem is not caused by the router

* Restart your computer, modem, and router after performing any of the above

also try limiting ure upload (no lower than 6 though or ure down will be slower)

You know, when I don't disable DHT, my internet connection drops about once every 48 hours. If I do disable it... it drops once every 3 hours. 3 hours!!! I know DHT is a huge security hole and I could get in trouble at some private trackers for having it on, but... come on.... there's no way I'm recycling my modem every three hours.

I have this problem sometimes too running Azureus. It comes back if I close Azureus though.

Just lower your max number of connections. Your router is just getting swamped.

If you really want to tweak it, lower them by half, which should definitely cure your ail, then raise it 25%, let it run for a day or two, repeat till the problem returns and dial it back from there.
