Plot Holes in the Back to the Future movies

Okay this is an old film(s) but they are still classics. I simply wanted to talk about the many plot holes as Ive recently watched these movies again. There are so many plot holes it will take me awhile to remember them all. Dont get me wrong, I love all 3 films, its just wacky the way some parts of time travel are ignored to drag out the film.

Like at the end of the second film when doc is trapped back in the old west and Marty comes to save him after finding where doc hid the car. Doc his hid it in 1870something, Marty finds it in 1950something. Marty goes back to the old west in the freshly dug up car and ends up putting a hole in the gas tank, opps. Where do they find some gas in the old west? Oh where could there be some gas? uh-- Idunno.... perhaps the other time machine that is still in the old west with doc! There are now 2 time machines there, one should still have gas! ARGHHHH!

From what I understood they converted the engine slightly to run off of spirits....whiskey...and I think the doc had to mix it up a bit to get the right kick

No, they tried to run it off whisky when they could not get any gas. They never even tried to use the hiddedn car. They even blew a manafold (lol) when they tried to run the car with whisky and the doc says "It will take me a month to fix that!". Just take the one off the other car doc! Jesus!

The hidden car in the old west had a problem with the time ciruits from the lightning strike but it still should of had some gas left in the tank to use in the repaired car Marty brought back with him.

The hidden car WAS the car he brought back... if you swapped parts off of the old west car, then the 1950's car would then be missing those parts. If you took the gas out the 1950's car would then be out of gas.

Besides... at the end of the 1st movie, wasn't the car running off of the "Mr Fusion" juicer?

Well youre sorta right. In these movies changes did not happen all at once, it took hours or longer for the changes to happen. Some events actually happened that changed the time line but somehow they were still in the past/future. Like when the doc reads that he was commited for being insane in 1983, well before he invented the time machine. That should have been the end of the movie right then and there as both Marty and Doc should have vanished as none of the events would have ever taken place. This is the BIGGEST plot hole of the entire series.

But they would not have needed to worry about using all the gas as they could have bought more in 1950. It would also be easier to machine the parts back in 1950. Somehow actions like this are not taken into account in theses movies anyhow. If they would have took the part off the car Marty wouldnt have disappeared by Back to the Future standards. But good point. Attach a note "Hey, you gotta fix this shit and BTW, bring a gas can full of gas Marty, youll need it!" lol

Also, Marty parks the Delorian in the cave when he makes it to the old west but there was no sign of the car being in there. Furthermore in the 50's the cave was a mine (or at least it looked like one. It had structure) but in the 1800's it was not. You would think those silly miners would have noticed the parked car in there.

Mr fusion only powered the flux capacitor, the engine still needed gas.

no, i think mel has a point about the other car. the fuel line was ripped, but im pretty sure they could have replaced/repaired that with 1800's tech. then, with there being fuel in 1950, they could have refueled the car after they unburied it. if they only took some gas, and repaired the fuel line, everything should have been fine.
Here's Britney Spears' private jet... The gulf stream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound DVD system. Still think downloading music for free isn't a big deal?

Read my edit. Its something I didnt think about. Why not just put a note in the hidden car that says "bring a full gas can Marty". That should fix the problem. LMAO

Just look in the trunk, there is now a can full of gas!

of course, if doc never built the time machine, then time never would have changed, and the whole movie would have become a paradox. i think the idea is that when they changed time, they created a separate time line that they were able to still exist on. ever watch stargate atlantis? there is an episode where they find out they all died the first time they arrived at the city, but one person made it back in time before the city was abandoned, and fixed a few things so that when they arrived again, they wouldnt have any problems. once again, separate time lines.

Paradox... wasn't there some movie (no not freejack) where they removed people before disasters, and brought them to the future, because people were unable to breed anymore... ?

Thought it was paradox... but it's not... hmmmmmmm

Ahhh my friend you have a good memory.
The movie is called Millenium with Kris Kristofferson and its about Kristofferson investigating an airline disaster and eventually finding out that in the distant future when we have destroyed everything we had created a time gate and to save the human race from extinction the plan is to go back just before a disaster and replace all the living people with innert genetic clones, put them in stasis in the hopes of eventually sending these healthy people with some of the last survivors a thousand years into the future from the point in time where the earth is dead.

The hopes being a 1,000 years with no human life would give the planet enough time to heal and become habitable again

good movie, one of the only real and good B rated movies in the 80's

    Ding!

I have never actually watched the whole movie... but remember the basic plot... and some discussion of a paradox as a risk presented by the time travel.

    HAHAHAHA!!!!

    good one!

ALSO... Why was old biff from 2015 able to steal the time machine, alter the past, then go to an unchanged future with no problem to drop the time machine off for marty and doc? BUT THEN... when they go back to 1985, they even specify that returning to the future to prevent old biff from stealing it wasnt possible since the future was changed.

they shouldve just been stranded there in 2015. old biff must be paradox resistant.

    props for this thread.

right? that wouldve worked on bill and ted atleast. and ironically makes more sense.

i never bought the whole, vanishing yourself out of existence thing either... cause if marty ruined the past and never existed... he never wouldve existed in the first place to go back TO ruin the past and then i guess.. he wouldve existed after all.

    i love it
