Everyone and anyone who ever had the chance of using AudioGalaxy must agree. There has never, not before nor since, been a better p2p program for downloading mp3s. Not even close. It was just amazing. Not only was it easy to find anything you'd ever wanted, you could even cue up downloads for files no one on the network had available at the time of searching! Think during the whole time it was active, there were probably at most about 5 tracks that I never got. And I searched for some obscure stuff alright. Unfortunately it was also designed like a big bulls-eye for the RIAA with it being very centralized and they just munched it up like dessert.
It's now 5 years later and there are a throng of new P2P services out there. And one would assume that the internet's collective brain reserve would have figured out how to make a spiritual successor to AudioGalaxy without it being quite as easy a target. Now obviously this hasn't happened, I would have heard about it (I'm pretty sure) but here's the question.
Is there any program that's close? Or atleast one that's the closest? And if any more knowledgeable people are reading this, would it even be possible to make a program like AudioGalaxy, with all the features of AudioGalaxy, but decentralized? I'm just so tired not finding what I'm looking for using stuff like DC++ and BitTorrent (and let's not even talk about KaZaa or Limewire)!

I'll really miss Audiogalaxy (and Kazaa when I still trusted it, and Shareaza when it seemed like the best program out there, and Napster way back when).
But nowadays bittorrent is great, and makes me forget completely about the past. BTW try filemp3.com, it's registrations are open. And actually Limewire is a pretty decent option for downloading songs and only songs. Though probably not the very obscure ones, at least it's good clean and fast for most others (for me anyways).
I never knew why people liked Kazaa so much, it was always such a pain in the ass to use. Even at the start it wasn't all that good. Sadly the masses had adopted it so for files it was the best option. But man was it ever annoying to find the proper files.

The Audiogalaxy was great because it uses centralized servers & users has not been fragmented yet! To duplicate Audiogalaxy may not be wise anymore. :(

audiogalaxy was amazing
Its indexing ability was superb and way ahead of its time. It has not had a suitable successor and probably never will, unfortunately.

the idea of centralized servers is awesome but very difficult to maintain because its one place for the law to focus its energy on.
SoulSeek does a good job for the obscure stuff. Only prob is its still a centralized p2p network. If it ever gained the popularity of AG it would be crushed too I suppose.
IRC and newsgroups are still good for rare stuff too, there's a channel or binary for any flavor imaginable.

it looks like im the only one whos glad those days are gone, christ all those ques , and fakes , virus infected rubbish that took me weeks to get on a 56k modem to find out it was a waste of time, no management of the files ...sooooo many dupes, god im starting to feel a little woozzzie now, im all about retro but Kazaa, edonkey, winmx, napster etc are not things i want to relive , i may tell them as scarey stories to my grand kids in years to come.....

What are you talking about kadake? AG had none of those problems. You rarily qued for more than half a minute, very few fakes, no viruses (that I encountered) and the management of tracks was the best I've ever seen. You sure that it was AG you used?
I don't think you used audio galaxy. You couldn't have if you got all that from it. It was just music files anyway....MUCH harder than programs like Kazaa to get what you described on!
You were probably a kazaa user.
And I would take the original audio galaxy being back any day of the week!
audioglaxy was simply amazing but i agree with digitaljunkie and zane duplicating it might not be such a good idea with the centralized servers the RIAA would be all over it
