    Life After Utorrent

Let's face it, regardless of whether or not 1.7x is reporting info outside the tracker it's days are numbered because of it's MPAA affiliation.

    What's next?

As I look at banned client lists on private trackers, I'm surprised by how varied they are. With the exception of a few versions of utorrent and azureus, it seems like just about every client appears on someone's banned list.

The thought of using different clients for different trackers doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling and the thought of having to use ultra-bloated azureus depresses me even more.

Is there a client on the horizon that's small, clean, fast, secure, relatively feature rich and potentiality compatible with all trackers?

As I type this last sentence, it dawns on me how much I'm going to miss utorrent when I have to give it up. It'll be a sad sad day.

so they are selling content via BT, i say the more legit uses for BT the better.
unless you have a shred of proof that ut send info to the mothership, you should quit fear mongering.

Sparky, you made your opinion clear in the other thread, as did I. I'm done arguing about whether or not utorrent is being a bad boy. The point is that it's getting banned- and that isn't going to stop. This thread is for discussing alternatives.

I really love uTorrent and I would hate to have to replace it with another client, but I guess my second choice would probably be Azureus.

all new clients are ban'd at first until the site owners are 100% sure it is fully compatable. If you were paying attn, a lot of sites have lifted the ban on either 1.7 or 1.71 after finishing compatability testing. More sites will follow suit, just like with every other new client that becomes stable release.

My computer went apes*** a couple times while running 1.7.1. Dunno if 1.7.1 was definitely the cause, but it's 1.6.1 and Azureus for me from now on.

As for alternativs this may very well be the next open source alternative for the future. It is still being tested and is banned from some private trackers still, but some trackerstaff and one admin I know are looking into it to see if it's reporting correctly and is a safe option.

I better add that it is great that BitTorrent is also used now for "legitimate reasons" so Sparky9 doesn't needlessly negative rep me once again.

    You think that's unjust.

i got more negative rep for complaining about being needlessly negatively repped.

Whining about negative rep is a good way to lose more...

It's funny how fast people are to negative rep, but how hard it is to get positive rep.

Hurray for the rep system here.

Well, I don't know what to think about the uTorrent news. I'm only catching glimpses, but I know a lot of the places I'm at have banned it. I'm using Azureus now and -I HATE IT-. It used to be my favorite client, but now it's just too bubbley and I don't know where any of the features are. Any other suggestions... something more like uTorrent?

    ur still "Whining"

take it on the chin and make good posts

if i or any other mod (or long standing or high posting user) pos repped u u would be way over 0

earn it (same goes for everyone)

    back on topic

id have azureus if it wasnt java based, compared to utorrent its a massive system hog

i used to run torrents on a dedicated machine, really low specs (celeron 400 192mb ram) and azureus would just lock it up but loads of others worked just fine (bittcomet and utorrent)

i like tight programming as im sure do others.

I think uT 1.6.1 is pretty good. I will stick to it for quite sometime unless some major bug in it is reported.
I think I will just stick to uT 1.6.1 till this mess is sorted out, and use Azureus along side by side.

And about reducing Az's system mem and resource consumption, I found in this forum ( may be somewhere else , cannot remember ... ) a post providing a link to Azu Wiki which details how to streamline Az ...

    was the link ....

would it be possible for someone(obviously with more programming knowledge than me) to "extract" the source code, then just create a new GUI and what not?
