Safari 3 BETA for Windows

Apple doubled its presence on the Windows platform Monday when it released a Windows-compatible version of its Safari Web browser. Released as a public beta, the final version of Safari 3 will run on both Windows and Mac OS X 10.5.

Apple decided to make Safari a cross-platform application to boost the Web browser’s market share. According to figures cited by Jobs, Safari currently captures about 5 percent of the browser market; Microsoft Explorer commands 78 percent of the market while Mozilla’s Firefox has a 15-percent share.

Apple promises a speedy version of Safari for Windows. The company says that Safari performed an iBench HTML performance suite test twice as fast as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer — 2.2 seconds to IE’s 4.6 seconds. The Apple-built browser turned in similar performance on iBench’s Javascript test, completing the suite in less than a second compared to IE’s 2.4-second time.

I have to Edit my First Post:
Its much slower than Opera,its eating more Ram than Opera,most Sites don't load good (many Forums can't be opend).At all they have a lot of work to do!But good to see a new Browser for Windows!

While it's nice to see new browsers, I must say I'll stick with Firefox until plugins arrive for it. I immediately saw tons of banner ads just by surfing about the web a little, something I take for granted with Firefox and AdBlock.

i don't really get their stratagy here safari is the least likely aplication to sway me towards a mac. i don't see how offering this browers for windows benifits apple in anyway... maybe an aplication that didn't have a perfectly suitable competitor already on windows (IE firefow opera... we already have enought great browsers) could do a better job of swiching people over

Man, is it really that bad? I was actually looking forward to trying it out. I'll give it a go later on tonight.

I read this on another website :-

I finally made Safari on Windows more faster! the rendering speed is increased with a simple modification in here:

“C:\Program Files\Safari\Safari.resources”

Make sure Safari is closed!

Open up Defaults.plist and add the following line at the end:

WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay
0.25

This should make Safari Render faster :)

It seems to be faster for me!
