also make sure you are on an unrestricted account, when i was on aol i had a very slightly limited account, but no external programs (including IE and Netscape) would be able to connect, if i went on my dads urestricted account, it worked fine

aol may have its own firewall

also, aol does strange things to the registry, i had to reload windows before i could get rid of all the settings when we dropped aol, did you have dial up aol before you upgraded, and did kazaa work with that?

    what brand router?

i have a linksys router, i know it has a firewall, the way i can edit the settings is to....

first open your browser (i know it works in IE, so use that if possible), then type in your default gateway which should be http://192.168.1.1/ , if it brings up a window asking for your user name/password, dont put anything in the user name blank, type "admin" without quotes, in the password box, then if it brings up a window with options for your router...you should see some options about a router

again i only know this works with a linksys router, if you have a differnt type, this may not help at all

you have just hit an area that i dont know much about, hopefully somebody with a little more experience could help you from this point, but knowing you have a firewall may help you later on

make sure you can have other programs access the internet through aol, for example try internet explorer, if that works, im out of ideas, if you can't browse the net through IE, then check options in aol, also right click on IE (it should be on your desktop), and go to properties, go to the connections tab, im not sure how aol connects, but possibly their website has some information on how your settings should be

If it's a Linksys BEFSR41/BEFSR11/BEFSRU31 you will have to upgrade the firmware of the router to work with AOL's Parental controls.

Find out more about that one at: http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=1

I don't know if that'll make the filesharing work, but that's my 2 cents.
