    burning divx files etc

    Hi,

Does anyone have a link or something to a guide of how to convert and burn CD-sized files, DivX and all that malarkey, onto a DVD so i can actually play it on my DVD player?

I used to make do burning them to CD and watching them on the computer, but that won't so anymore.

    Cheers for any help

There are many DivX/XviD to DVD converters, pick one then learn to use that program! There are also freeware, which doesn't cost anything. Some update often, but some don't!

    Freeware: 1. The FilmMachine: http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/ 2. AVI2DVD: http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html

The above two freeware, can also burn subtitles on the DVD so you can watch it!

forgive my ignorance, but is divx a generic term for these type of files? i know it as a media player.

will i be able to use these programs to convert any type of Mpeg file etc to dvd for example?

cheers very much for the links i'll check them out.

edit: i just checked the first link which pretty much answers my question, so thanks!

DivX/XviD are the names for the video codec that is used in compress & decompression, these encoded files are wrap in container AVI as AVI files. So, when you see AVI files, they are video files.

Lifehacker did an article with thefilmmachine. I use nero. Most burners and computers come with nero now a days.

You can use something like convertxtodvd to convert/decompress the files, or... you can get your hands on a DVD player that can play AVIs/DIVx. Just burn the AVI file to a cd (Nero, Data Disc) and watch. As using convertxtodvd takes me about two hours to convert a 700 mb movie and I end up with a few gb file that no longer fits on a CD, the philips DVD player that I have is a Godsend.
