overburning disaster!

aganist my better judgement,i overburned a data dvd cd disc in making a svcd.itseemed to work,all looked ok.but now when i try to burn to a data dv-r(not cd,which was what i overburned),i get a powercalibration error.it would seem to me that cds would be giving me the problem,since thats what i overburned with.but they burn fine,but no dvd will burn now,no matter what brand of media.any hope at all,or is my drive toast?:icon_shak

dvd writer is 16 quid get a new one and have 2 also cheaper than wasting loads of disks trying to get it sorted
