yeah totally...and we've gone thru 3 cable companies...I've been asking for cable internet since...like 1997...when we first got the internet, period...and they've always said "in three weeks" or "in three months" first it was TCI, then AT&T Broadband...and now Comcast...but I just found out in alabama...it's now 6MB A SEC!! W007...so freakin fast

    5-6k on dialup

Tell her that it is definately a cheaper deal to get a bundled pkg w/ the cable...you get both for one price(usually 30-40 a mo) <~~~ thats a basic bundle.
Rather than paying for Phone,Cable,Dialup and then the phones always tied up and you have to get off to take calls etc (I know everytime I dialup it's 5 cent ) so there youd be saving money also. :)

I hope this helps....if not then I suggest getting a job to maybe help her out :D

Did anybody bother to look at the date of this thread? its like a year and a half old!

Hunter, I can beat your download speed now, but your upload will allways trump.

I have 3000/256k Cable through Adelphia.

Typical downloads off the internet are usually 250-350kbps.
A Popular file on Kazaa will Download at 180-220+ KBPS
A less popular file can see about 50-100kbps
Rare files can be as slow as 56k.

It depends on a lot of other things too

Currently I have the 1.5Mbps down and 256Kbps up basic crap.

But my ISP is expanding their services and for 5 dollars more I can get a 3Mbps down and 384Kbps up connection.

I currently have satellite internet by Starband.com and I go with the $49.99/month plan. The recently came out with a $39.99 plan ealier this year. I got it in March of 03'. I paid a good chunk of money to get the satellite along with the cheaper bill. With installation and everything it came to like $1,200, but it's okay because I love it and I'm out in the country and there's nothing else I can get.

I usually get 100kb/sec. And when I download music off of websites such as espew.com it only takes a minute in a half or less.

You are suppose to have a clear view of the sky, but since I'm in the country I have lots of trees in the way. You are suppose to get up to 800KB/sec, which I do believe you can get because once in a while I see it top 1MB/sec which is hardly ever, but it has happened very quickly before.

Beats the old 56k I had which would only download at 3KB/sec. Anything above 56k is better I think.

I have DSL, but a lot of downloads can be pretty damn fast sometimes.
File-sharing will always be the greatest thing on the internet.

My speed result is,download=1.09Mbps and my upload=0.87Mbps and i check my speed from scanmyspeed.com and the reason why im using this speed checker is that i dont have flash to support speedtest.net so i went for this and without java and flash its working..
