I was wondering if it is safe, or if there is anyway to make it safe, for me download from work using newsgroups and through their proxy?
I remember some people getting caught with KaZaa back in the day but that was because of the upload traffic they generated but because I will only be downloading, I was wondering if it would just be 'hidden' in the mass of background download noise?
Cheers.
Usenet is relatively safe, since you don't upload. Most of the time it's the servers that get attacked, not the users.
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 (2x3.20Ghz)
CPU Fan: Zalman NT
Power Supply: ATX 750W Power & Cooling
MB: Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wi-Fi
RAMs: 2x1GB Consair DDR2-667
Video Card: PCX EVGA 8800GT 512MB
Sound Card: SB X-FI Fatal1ty
OS: WinXP Pro SP2
HDDs: 1-WDC Raptor 150GB, 1-WDC 120GB 1-WDC My Book Essential 500GB, 2-Maxtor 2x250GB 1 - WDC Caviar 1TB
And the servers are neigh impossible to find, since its all basically coded text.
Sorry guys, I should have explained it better. Is it safe for me to download from work without work catching me? They caught the KaZaa people because of the upload traffic generated that was detected going from work. I download some music from work (from AllOfMP3) without a hitch but I was wondering if newsgroups would pose a more serious problem. Plus, I have a SSL account with a newsgroup server. Would this help?
Well are we just talking about a company with computers, or a company with computers that has an Admin that works for them as well?
If you have a PC Admin that works for your company overseeing the operation of the computers, forget it, you'll get busted, unless the Admin is a sleep.
