Wallpaper Resetting Itself?!

I have a Copmaq c350 laptop (about 2 months old, windows xp)

All was fine until a couple of weeks ago when the wallpaper keeps resetting iteslf. I set the wallpaper to a background of my choice but it will randomly revert to the compaq default wallpaper. Sometimes it happens when i'm using the laptop and sometimes when i'm waway from it.

When I go desktop > Properties > wallpaper - under background it shows the wallpaper I set as the one which should be displayed. However to get it to show up again I need to click on another wallpaper and then back on the one i want again.

I checked for spyware, viruses etc. but everything seems ok.

Another thing i've noticed is that sometimes when i restart my computer my quick launch buttons are no longer in the same order as i set them.

Any ideas??

Do you shut down the computer properly? Sometimes, when you change the wallpaper and don't shut down the computer properly, the wallpaper resets after restart.

yeah - i have shut it down properly a few times.

the thing is it doesn't just reset itself after i restart it. sometimes it is when i'm in the middle of using it.
